COOL HUNTERS: THE LEGAL STALKERS OF YOUTH CULTURE

After I read this fragment from the third chapter of Naomi's book, 'No logo', I have to say that in only four paragraphs the author explains how the fashion insdustry and marketing work. In general, I agree with what she comments, for example, when she says that the cool consultancies advise their clients to use 'viral communications'. I think the best way to carry the brands buisness on is using slogans and ads which you can easily influence people with, mostly the youth. When it becomes to the strategies and politics of these industries, the cool hunters do such a good job.

I hate the idea of being influenced (or even 'infected' by 'the plagues' the brands marketing create) by the politics the brands use. But at the same time, I think that the buisness world consists of getting benefits; we can not stop these types of politics, making as an excuse their successful work.

In my opinion, nowadays it is easy to drag people into the consuming world because, even if we do not realise it, we are exposed to multiple influencers.
If we get shocked with the idea of superbrands tagging the graffiti writers, the skaters or even the londoners roadmen, who initially were people who reclaim against these types of politics, think about the youtubers you watch who get sponsored and who do not stop talking about products which they even like or the number of companies' logos a football field has 'to wear'. As Naomi says: 'no space has been left unbranded.'

REVIEW: TED TALKS ON FASHION

The different ted talks that I have watched talk about several fashion aspects. Some people explain different ways to make fashion morally fine or the disadvantages and issues that fashion really brings.

In the first video, Cameron Russel, a model, admits that being a model does not depend on you. She says that it is like a 'genetic lottery' that not everybody wins. She also comments the way the society judges by the way a person's look and not by who they really are.

I agree with Cameron Russel in some aspects. She explained how is it being a model and what you go through. I think that she is right when she says that she simply won 'a genetic lottery'. But, when she started to say and confirm how is the industry of fashion in real life and the advantages that she had since she was 16 years old I thought about one simple question. If she is not happy with how fashion works, why does she continues working on being a model?

In the second video, Jessi Arrington explains how someone can easily wear cheap clothes and feel comfy with it. She remarks that we do not have to buy expensive clothes from different famous clothes brands to feel good with ourselves. To prove that, she shows some outfits which she recreated with second hand clothes.

Here is the video of the Ted Talk she did:

THE CLIMATE CHANGE IN DRAWINGS

Zaria Forman's drawings show the beauty and the fragility of Earth. She travels around the world, mainly to the Artic, the Equator, Greenland and the Maldives. With each photographs and experience that she lives, she makes a painting to show the world how the climate change is affecting each part of our planet.

I think that the climate change is one of the current biggest issues of the human being. It is already happening and represents one of the greatest environmental, social and economic threats facing the planet.
The warming of the climate system is unequivocal, as is now evident from observations of increases in global average air and ocean temperatures. I read in a newspaper article that the Earth's average surface temperature has risen by 0.76º C since 1850.
The climate can affect every person and our health directly through increases in temperature. Such increases may lead to more extreme heat waves during the summer while producing less extreme cold spells during the winter. Actually, we start to feel that. It's November and the Sun still shines like if it's Summer. Also, people with heart problems, asthma, the elderly and the very Young can be especially vulnerable to extreme heat.

Most of the warming that has occurred over the last 50 years is very likely to have been caused by human activities. Nowadays there are so many factories that exhale really destructive substances and pollute the air. We all know very well that air is something we can’t live without. When we breathe the polluted air, we can get seriously ill.

Another huge problem is that the sea levels are rising worldwide. Also the expansion of ocean water is caused by warmer ocean temperatures...The temperature is rising which means all the mountain glaciers and small ice caps are melting faster and faster, just like Zaria Formans said. Zaria drew a few paintings where we can see the melting of the ice in Greenland and in the Artic.
She has also went to places which are dryness. People from Africa, for example, can not cultivate plants because the dryness don't allow it. That is why they die from malnutrition; they can not get food from anywhere. Once again, they are suffering from a fact created by the pollution that we create.

As a conclusion, I think that as the responsables of this problem, we should take responsability of it. The autorities should start to make changes to slow the efects of the climate change, considering that it can not be stopped now. If we don't make any change, we will end up like the third world. Zaria does such a good work. All of her drawings, apart from being very beautiful, original and impressive, reflect very good the issues that the climate change brings.

You can check out the Zaria Forman's Ted Talk where she talks about her drawings and the climate change.

THE SCHOOL SYSTEM

A few days ago, I saw a video by Prince Ea where he criticates the school system in general. Prince Ea is a famous youtuber known for his motivating videos about life, death and other topics. The following video gained me a lot, because, largely, I was agree with it.

In the video, Prince Ea explains the issues that the current school system has. On the hand, he starts to explain how the students feel useless sometimes because of the way they educate him. On the other hand, he illustrated how the working of a class has not change throughout history. He adds that this education system treats the students as equal when in real life, each student has his way to think. He also talks about the teachers' low wage and the schools system of other countries like Finland.

This is the Prince Ea's YouTube video:

Prince Ea talks mainly about the American school system but the thing is that here, in Spain, the working of the education is the same. Throughout history, a lot of things from different aspects has changed, the way to communicate with people, the vehicles,... basically everything except the school system. Why we still holding on it when everything has changed?

Albert Einstein said once: 'Everybody is a genius, but if you judge a fish for its ability to climb the tree, it will live its whole live believing it is stupid.' I agree with this idea. As for the students, they are just like a fish. If they do not understand a lesson or they are not good at it, they are treated like a useless person. The truth is that each one of us has their special ability.

From my point of view, we are educated like robots. We have to work, to study and get good marks so that we can enter to a university and get a degree to have a good work with a good wage. But the thing is that life is not a fairytale and nothing makes us sure of anything of that. The education that we are receiving teachs us to be competitive and selfih.

Don't you ever asked yourself how can be possible that Spain is popular for its number of dropouts when it is one of the countries where the students work more in school and at home. I think that we should focus on what Finland is doing right, on the condition that the government wants to change the education system. If their interest has to do with having a lot of dropouts, then, our country is doing it right.

When it becomes to the teacher's wage, I have to say that it doesn't respond to what they do for the society. They have the responsability to prepare the youth. The youth are always the future of everything. As Prince Ea says, we may be the 20% of the population but we are the 100% of the future.

As a conclusion, I think that it is very difficult to reform, correctly, the education system. We can not change the current school system for the Finland's one in a couple of years, for example.

'ENSAYO SOBRE LA MIOPÍA' BY LEONARDO LAYANA

In this post, I will talk about Leonardo Layana's artwork. I know him about two years ago, when I saw some of his photographs on instagram. I found his artwork very interesting and curios, so that is why I wanted it to share it with you.

Leonardo Layana is an Argentinian profesional photographer who got famous for one of his works named 'Ensayo sobre la miopía'. This artwork recreats the vision of a short-sighted person. The objective of this work of art is to show to people how short-sighted people can see with clearly only with glasses.

I don't know nothing about photography. The only thing that I like about the world of photography is to see how a person with just a camera can capture things. I am impressed how Leonardo uses the photography to show what is the short-sightedness. I think that his photographs are very original and gains  a lot the public.

Don't you ever asked yourself how it feels being deaf, mute, blind... or in that case short-sighted? I think that we will never know (except for those who unfortunatly are). I am not short-sighted, but one of my siblings is. One day, we were watching a football match and he was not wearing the glasses. When he put the glasses he said: 'now I see more clearly everything'. Then, I asked him how he was seeing the match without the glasses. He answered me: 'I don't see the football players, the public or the lines of the field. I don't even see the scoreboard'. I was very shocked seeing how he could not see the tv correclty when the distance between him and the tv was not big.

Finally, from my point of view, I think that this is a good work of art. It is funny how Leonardo Layana uses the glasses in every photograph, separating the blurred view from the clear one. According to my sibling, the view of a short-sighted is like what a normal person sees in a video when the camera is not focused, just like in the photographs from 'Ensayo sobre la miopía' on the right.

WHY IS DEATH A TABOO TOPIC IN THE WESTERN CULTURE?

After we had lisening to David Bowie's last song, we had to think the reason why western culture is so afraid of death and why death is a taboo topic.

Personally, I think that death is a big rite of passage because you pass from one stage of life, where you are alive, to another which no one knows about it. It is the only rite of passage which everyone does but no one knows about it.

From my point of view, death is a taboo for the western culture because they are affraid from it, considering that nobody knows what is going to happen or where do we go once we are dead. Because of that, they rarely talk about death and they continue living life like there is not an end. They think that death is just like a virus and if they talk about it, it will spread.
In my opinion, I think that we do not have to be affraid of something that is going to happen anyway and we should not treat it like a taboo topic, because if we start to treat everything we are affraid for like that, we wouldn't be able to talk about anything.

REVIEW: STRANGER THINGS

In this post, I will make a review about a TV series which impressed me a lot, Stranger Things. This is a Netflix series and I knew about it because a lot of youtubers talked about Stranger Things. I wanted to see if it was really a good series as they were saying, that was why I watched the first season about two months ago.

As I said, Stranger Things is an original series from Netflix. The Duffer Brothers are the guionists and the directors of it. The first episode it was realised on the 15th July 2016. Since then, the tv series recieved a lot of good critiques.

The first season of Stranger Things is basically about the disappearing of a young boy. His mother and brother, Friends and the police chief must confront terrifying forces in order to get him back.
The boy's friends find a girl, Eleven, in the place where Will, the boy, was disappeared. She will help all of them to find Will and to understans what is really happening in Hawkins.

This is the trailer of the first season:

Stranger Things treates themes like science fiction and fantasy. In the first season of Stranger Things there are eight episodes. The rate of the plot is quite slow because they want to leave you with curiosity to know what is really happening and what is going to happen. The series is set in the eighties. Everything is from that age: the music, the cars, the bycicles, the clothes, etc. The guionists and the directors based this netflix series on works from Steven Spielberg, Stephen King and John Carpenter, between others.
The second season's premier will be on September 2017.

In my opinion the plot of the series is very good. When I saw the trailer I knew that I would love it. It is not my favourite tv series but I really like the idea of the tv series. I really like its atmosphere. Stranger Things is exciting, heartbreaking and sometimes terrifying. I recommend Stranger Things to anyone. When someone tells me what is it about, I only answer: 'Go and watch it'. I can not explain the plot of the series because I would make a lot of spoilers.
I had enjoyed each episode with so much enthusiasm and I can't wait for the second season's premier.
